Crayfish as a Pet

Little Girls and Crayfish as Pet
Crayfish as a Pet. Red Claw Crayfish in United Kingdom is legal to keep as pet. Red Claw came from Australia. The water temperature should also be checked and must remain constant at room temperature. A pet crayfish can withstand pH levels of 7.0 to 8.0. with good water dan much oxygen.
Furthermore, crayfish likes to dig up holes and mark its territory. Crayfish also has a tendency to climb out of the aquarium if it can reach the top. It is best to avoid mixing the pet crayfish with tropical fish; rather it should be mixed with fish such as bass. All species of crayfish require clean, well oxygenated water. Crayfish will drown in stationary water in 6 hours due to the fact that oxygen will settle to the top of the water column out of their reach. Water parameters should be Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 10. When keeping a crayfish as a pet, it is suggested they are provided with a hiding space.

Rusian Crayfish, Rusian Salad

To a Russian, the crayfish is a summertime staple as crucial to the national cuisine as caviar, and much more accessible.

If you're a fan, make it a point to visit this restaurant, since it's a glimpse of what for many Russian men is the ultimate dining experience.

The bright red crustaceans are the main draw, whether boiled in beer, spiced, or doused in cream sauce. Grilled fish is also on offer, as well as seafood-based appetizers and salads. The only appropriate beverage for a crayfish lunch is Russian beer.

Louisiana Crawfish

Louisiana crawfish have been commercially available as food source since the late 1800's. The earliest account of a commercial crawfish harvest can be traced back to the year 1880 where crawfisherman netted over 23,000 pounds and bringing in $2100. In the wild, the two species of commercial significance are the red swamp crawfish (Procambarus clarkia) and the white river crawfish (Procambarus zonangulus). Because the species often coexist, it is common to find both in the same catch, and it is nearly impossible for crawfishermen to attract one species over the other in the wild. These wild crawfish are caught primarily in riparian zones, or lands and waters along rivers and slow moving streams

Yabbie Parasite : Crayfish Parasite :Temnocephids / Temnocephalida / Flat Worm

Temnocephids / The Temnocephalida are an order of turbellarian flatworms, Platyhelminthes (flat worms).
Unlike most other turbellarians, all the species in this order are either commensal or parasitic. They can be found living on crustaceans, molluscs, and, in some species, even turtles. The commensal species typically live in the gill or mantle cavities of their hosts, while the parasites live inside the digestive system. Anatomically, temnocephalidans can be distinguished from related groups by the presence of an adhesive disc on the underside for attachment to the host, and of a number of finger-like projections arising from the head.

Crayfish Plague / Crawfish Plague :  The Plague Fungus (Aphanomyces Astaci)

Aphanomyces Astaci commonly referred to as crayfish plague is an oomycete or water mould that infects only crayfish species. It is endemic of North America and is carried by North American crayfish species; signal crayfish Pacifastacus Leniusculus, Procambarus Clarkii and Orconectes Limosus. A. Astaci was introduced into Europe through imports of North American species of crayfish. Native European crayfish populations are not resistant to this oomycete. It has since devastated native crayfish stocks throughout the continent.
